From Tears of Sadness to Tears of Joy

4th December, 2009

Gitali Gitali had given up hope and wanted to die, but then a GFA-supported team of women missionaries reached her just in time.

Gitali cried both times when the team of Gospel for Asia-supported women missionaries visited her . . . but the second time, she shed tears of joy.

For two years, she had suffered from severe pain in one of her knees, and there hadn't been much to smile about. Gitali and her husband, Jayesh, were both very concerned.

Since they were from the higher end of society, they had the means to seek plenty of medical help.

But Gitali didn't get better. Instead, her pain increased more and more as the days went by. She even reached the point where she needed someone to help her stand up and sit down.

Gitali's situation consumed her entire life. She had been very devoted to her family's traditional religious practices and even celebrated the festivals of their deities, but none of this helped her cope with her situation. Many times she thought about committing suicide to escape her life of agony.

During this time, one of Gitali's neighbors told her about some Gospel for Asia-supported women missionaries who were serving in a nearby village. Many people knew about the missionaries because they were praying for the sick and suffering, and sharing about the love of Jesus.

Gitali followed her neighbor's advice and asked these women to visit and pray for her. Tears welled in her eyes as she described her misery. She told the team that if Jesus really healed her, she would believe in Him. Assuring Gitali of Jesus' love and power to heal, the women joined their hearts and prayed for a miracle. As they left, they assured Gitali that God would soon work a miracle. Back at home, the women were dedicated to continue in prayer.

Women Missionaries In South Asia, it isn't culturally appropriate for a man to approach a woman, so women's ministry teams are incredibly effective.

A few days later, Gitali again invited the women's team to her home. This time, she shed tears of joy as she told them how Jesus had healed her.

"Jesus is the real and living God!" she proclaimed.

Gitali and her husband, Jayesh, both chose to trust in Jesus, publicly testified of their faith and began attending a church in their local village.

Pray for continued strength for the team of women missionaries to share Christ's love in a powerful way with many more who are sick and hurting. Pray, too, that Gitali and her husband will grow steadily in their Christian walks.
