They Wanted Joy, Too

4th December 2009

BOH Children Children in Bridge of Hope centers, like the girls shown here, get to hear about Christ's love, and often their families do, too.

Kundan Rao, a Gospel for Asia–supported missionary, had just shared some truths from the Scriptures with Rajit and Akshatha when suddenly their 10-year-old daughter, Chandra, began to behave wildly.

Kundan asked what was wrong, and her mother shared the family's sad predicament.

Within the past few weeks, Chandra had fallen ill. The family lived in an area where superstition and spiritual darkness were prevalent, and Rajit and Akshatha could tell that it was the work of evil spirits. They took their daughter to the local witch doctor, who performed all kinds of rituals on Chandra but could not succeed in chasing out the evil presence.

It seemed that Chandra was only getting worse. Not knowing what to do with her, Rajit and Akshatha helplessly watched her struggle for several days. Chandra and her younger brother, Sujin, were both students at a GFA Bridge of Hope center, but Chandra could no longer attend because of her erratic, uncontrollable behavior.M

Kundan first met Chandra and her family while doing outreach in their village. After hearing Chandra's story, Kundan asked if he could pray for her. As he prayed, suddenly, to everyone's surprise and relief, the girl calmed down.

Chandra went back to life as usual, attending the Bridge of Hope center again.

But five days later, Chandra's brother discovered her lying on the floor, her body flailing around once again. He ran to tell his parents, and they quickly called for Kundan, who rushed to the girl's side and prayed for her again.

After he prayed, Chandra became calm and the evil spirit stopped attacking her. The Lord was powerfully working, and Kundan took this opportunity to again share the love of Jesus with the family. Rajit and Akshatha listened very closely and sensed the joy and delight that could be found in knowing the Lord. They told the pastor they would like to experience this joy.

Rajit and Akshatha chose that same day to trust in Christ. Kundan prayed for them and encouraged them to start attending church, too, so they could grow in their new faith.

The couple came to church, along with Chandra and her brother, Sujin. They also got rid of the idols they had once worshipped.

Kundan would like prayer that the Lord will continue to use his ministry in this area for His glory and that these new believers will stand strong in the Lord.
