Like the children pictured here, poor families received warm blankets from GFA–supported missionaries to keep out the cold.
Sahaj Basanti and Manda were just three of literally thousands of people receiving gifts, thanks to the generosity of people who purchased them through GFA's Christmas Gift Catalogue.
Another four families in this same area were blessed when GFA–supported missionaries gave them sewing machines. Savita Malik, Prabha Kapur, Rahas Malhotra and Rashmi Bhatnagar used to bring their clothes to tailors for alterations, but now these men and women are able to mend their own clothes as well as the clothes of those living in their village, earning them each around 500 Indian rupees (about $15) a month. This is considered an improvement in wages in a country where more than 380 million people earn less than $2 per day.
"These families are very poor and live under the poverty line," a GFA field correspondent writes. "This gift helped them in their poverty. [It] is a great help in their need."
GFA–supported missionaries also reached out to those suffering during the cold winter months. Nine blankets were distributed to poor families living in Uttar Pradesh, India, where the weather has been the harshest, claiming more than 500 lives so far this year.
"During the winter season in north India, many people die every year because of the severe cold," a GFA field correspondent explained. "They are blessed to receive this gift because it has helped protect them."
Each of the families who received these gifts are believers in Jesus. Our correspondent states that their faith has grown stronger as a result, and they are glorifying God for what they've received.
