What Their God Couldn't Do

30th March 2010

Rijul's family made oaths to their gods in exchange for Rijul's healing, but no amount of devotion could cure Rijul from his mental illness.

The people in Rijul's village worshiped a plethora of gods and goddess, and Rijul's family was no different. But there was one god that captured most of their devotion.

Rijul and his family believed if they worshiped this god, it would give them power to have victory over their enemies. But Rijul received no strength as he battled his own inner weaknesses.

For years, Rijul suffered with mental illness. His family became depressed by his condition. They took him to a mental hospital for treatment and also to witch doctors, but nothing and no one could heal and deliver him. They even went to temples and made oaths to their gods in exchange for Rijul's healing, but all their attempts were in vain.

Then Rijul's family heard about two Gospel for Asia–supported pastors who were serving near their village. They asked these pastors to pray for their tortured son.

Siraj and Zamir listened to the family members' anguish as they explained the condition of Rijul and how nothing could help him. The pastors shared the message of salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ with the family and began fasting and praying for Rijul.

Two days of fasting and praying passed, but the pastors did not give up hope for Rijul. On the third day, Siraj and Zamir witnessed a miracle as Rijul was completely healed from his mental illness.

Rijul and his family now devote their lives to worshiping the true, living God, and the god they once devoted themselves to has been cast aside and forgotten.
