Health Camp Gives Women a Voice

21st May 2010

GFA leaders presented the doctor with a special gift.

The visiting doctor and GFA leader Chandan Nayar took turns handing out multi-vitamin supplements to the women as they came up to the front.

Gospel for Asia celebrated World Health Day on April 7 with a medical camp in Haryana, India. Geared toward educating impoverished women, the camp was an opportunity to learn about health and basic hygiene and have concerns answered.

A Women's Fellowship team and the wives of GFA office staff coordinated the program.

Women came from different parts of the city, including a nearby slum colony and a leprosy colony. A total of 150 people attended the program, including some parents of Bridge of Hope children.

They invited a local doctor to come and speak about health and hygiene.

After an opening prayer and a brief time of worship, the doctor talked about ways to stay healthy and fit—and how the women could foster a healthy atmosphere in their homes. He also shared about new diseases people are facing.

At the end of his talk, the doctor allowed time for the women to ask questions and voice concerns. Slowly, some of the women opened up about their health-related issues.

They received needed medicine at the camp, and all of the women received multi-vitamin supplements.

Near the end of the program, Chandan Nayar, a GFA leader, publicly recognized the doctor and expressed his appreciation to him for taking his time to come and speak on health and hygiene.

Please be in prayer for the women who attended the camp and for more opportunities like this one to reach out to communities in Jesus' name.

Haryana, the state where the camp took place, is slightly larger than Denmark, with a population that's almost four times as large.
