Many congregations in South Asia are in need of church buildings. They have outgrown the homes or rented rooms they meet in—this house fellowship grew to more than 300 believers before they were able to build a church!
A church building provides more than just extra space. In South Asian culture, a religion's worth is gauged in part by its house of worship, so fellowships that don't have a church building are eyed with suspicion. An actual structure gives respect to the Lord.
Please pray with us, asking the Lord to meet the need for more church buildings.
Here are some ways you can pray:
Pastors Baldev and Surjeet are experiencing the problems that come with renting a place to worship. Beyond the sense of impermanence, fellowships that rent face the possibility of not having a place to meet from week to week.
Ask the Lord to provide church buildings for congregations that are meeting in rented buildings.
Church buildings are targets for anti-Christian hostility. Pastor Jank's congregation understands this well. Whether the windows have been shattered or the entire structure has been demolished, many churches are in disrepair.
Ask the Lord to provide the funds for fellowships to repair their damaged buildings. Also ask for His protection over buildings in hostile areas.
A church building serves the congregation every day of the week. Like Pastor Prasan's church building, many of these structures give women's literacy classes and youth ministries a place to meet. They serve as a sanctuary for personal prayer and Bible study, too!
Thank the Lord for the many ways He uses these churches to serve the congregations who meet there. Ask Him to provide buildings for fellowships that don't have one so they can expand their ministry.
Whether a village's culture dictates that land stays within a family line, the price of land is too high or anti-Christians are actively opposing the pastor, fellowships often have trouble purchasing land on which to build a church.
Ask the Lord to provide land for fellowships.
